More groups are joining hands to build a more inclusive Philippines as Unilab Foundation (ULF), with the Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines, Inc. (DSAPI) launched United for Down, a long term health care program for Persons with Down Syndrome (DS).

The program kicked off last February 8, at Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria, with a large-scale medical mission offering free health services.

As they do for all their programs, ULF convened experts and concerned groups, including volunteer doctors and therapists, non-government organizations, government offices, hospitals, and other Unilab divisions for a fruitful event.

More than 150 Persons with DS of all ages were able to avail of free pediatric, cardiology, endocrinology, orthopedic, pulmonology, dental, and EENT services. They also had free consultations with physical, occupational, and speech therapy specialists; diagnostic services such as x-ray and electrocardiogram; plus vaccines and medicines.

On top of providing highly needed services and medicines to Persons with DS, the event served as an opportunity for organizations to renew their commitment to the cause.

It also rallied new groups and individuals towards providing holistic health for people with special needs. The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office encouraged the Persons with DS and their families to avail of the Office’s medical assistance for PWDs, an existing but underutilized government health service. The Philippine General Hospital pledged to continue their support by committing the services of their general doctors and specialists. ULIVaccines, Inc. guaranteed to provide the remaining doses of vaccines for free to those who availed of the initial dose during the event. And health service provider Health First promised to give free primary care consultations in their clinic to all Persons with DS who registered during the event.

The whole day event was a milestone that helps ensure the physical health of Persons with DS, for them to be holistically healthy, able for employment, and productive contributors in the workplace.

Unilab Foundation aims to build a healthier Philippines one person, one community at a time, through its Project Inclusion, by enabling the employment of PWDs, particularly those with Autism and Down Syndrome. Help build a #healthierPH by logging onto www.unilabfoundation.org.
